Stag PPX and PPX-Plus device programmers

Stag had been making device programmers for years before the PPZ appeared but not much is known about these products. I have spent some time collecting information about the PPX and PPX-Plus of which no examples are known to exist.

The PPX used replaceable personality modules and each type of module was designed to program a specific type of device. Stag created a new data transfer format for the PPX known as Stag PPX format. Stag documents for their later programmers also refer to it as the Stag Hex format.

The PM2700 NMOS EPROM unit can be used with the PPX or the PP17 copier. The picture shows that it is configured for AMD 2532 EPROMS.

Other personality modules known are the PS2000 which can program bipolar PROMs, NMOS/CMOS EPROMS and EEPROMS and cost $1300 and the PMG8 which can gang program up to eight EPROMs from data which is loaded from an EPROM in a master socket into the internal memory.
